Our Story
Over two decades ago, the dream of Coast & Canyon took root as our founder, Captain Gabe Galster, loaded up his 23 foot boat and ventured south to Venice in hopes of landing his first yellowfin tuna. Under the guidance of a local captain, this first venture proved successful, and the hook was set. As a lifelong fisherman and diver, he was familiar with the challenge of the pursuit and excitement of the catch, but Venice was different. It was so different that he would spend the next 20 years dedicated to learning about the fishery, ecosystem, gear, and culture, turning a dream into a lifelong passion.
Driven by this passion, Captain Gabe seized every opportunity to be offshore in the canyons. He started by deckhanding and learned the fishery from some of the most renowned captains in the area. As he became more and more competent, he decided to pursue earning his captains license. In 2010, he achieved his Master rating and upgraded his vessel so that he could take others out to experience what he had come to love.
Not only did Captain Gabe fulfill his own aspirations, but he also extended the thrill to his family. Gabe Jr., inspired by his father, followed in his footsteps and became a deckhand at the age of 21, carrying on the family’s love for Venice.
Captain Gabe’s ultimate vision has always been to establish a charter fishing and lodging business so that these amazing experiences could be shared with others. For him, it’s not just about the fishing; it’s about creating memories and sharing the indescribable feeling that washes over you as you hit the Gulf of Mexico in pursuit of adventure. Coast & Canyon Outfitters represents the culmination of all of those years of work and the unwavering dream of his that started over 20 years ago.

To say saltwater is his passion would be a vast understatement. With over 35 years of offshore experience and over 20 of those in the Venice fishery, there isn’t much that this captain hasn’t done. While he still gets a thrill from fighting a trophy tuna, Captain Gabe’s passion for sharing this experience is what lead him to found Coast & Canyon Outfitters.

Captain Brendan has lived and breathed Venice since 2016. Trained as a professional Chef, he soon found his calling in catching rather than cooking the fish from the gulf. Brendan is the epitome of an outdoorsman. From guiding duck and goose hunts to putting customers on the fish of a lifetime, Captain Brendan is your man.

Fun and entertaining! Lil G will keep you smiling and taken care of on your offshore adventure. As a second generation Venice Captain, he’s no stranger to the Gulf. Not only does he know how to cater to his customers, but he brings in the big fish too. You and your crew having a great and safe time is this captain’s main priority.
